Having
retired as an Architect in 1991, Douglas began painting when his wife, Christine, bought him some watercolour paints and said
"why not have a go?" In 1995 he held his first of many successful watercolour exhibitions
in Horsham, West Sussex. A few years later he was elected a member of the prestigious Association of Sussex Artists.
He regularly demonstrated at art clubs in Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey, and he ran regular watercolour workshops.
In 2001 he entered the national
Sunday Times, Singer Friedlander Watercolour Competition. His painting was one of the 120 selected out of 1,500
entries. The finalists' paintings were hung in the Mall Galleries, Pall Mall, London and afterwards in regional
centres throughout the UK.
He
and his wife moved to South West France in 2004 and have spent most of their time renovating their new home. He
now has more time to devote to his painting, including a new challenge, painting in oils.
Landscapes, townscapes
and harbour subjects feature strongly in his work. His loyalty to painting "pure" watercolours, ensures he
avoids using body colours, masking fluids and other aids.
We
hope you enjoy the paintings !
